Virtual Yoga for Body Image (Dec 5th-Jan 9th)
Do you experience increased negative body image over the holidays? Will you be seeing family and friends who you haven’t seen in a while? Anticipating unsolicited comments about your body?
Whether you are recovering from an eating disorder or simply have a body, the holidays can add to body image concerns. Increased social interactions combined with changes in eating patterns, greater depression and anxiety this time of year lend to more focus on the body.
Yoga helps improve body image. Which is why we’re offering this 6-week yoga series specifically targeted to support helping you get through the next couple months.
Join other individuals who are also struggling with body image this time of year as we move through breathing practices and yoga poses to help you feel more comfortable in your body. The yoga segment will be 45-50 minutes allowing a 10-15 minute check-in after. The goal is to help create an opportunity for connection, ease tension and discomfort in the body and decrease isolation.
The class is appropriate for all levels; a variety of options for poses and modifications will be offered. Participants will need a yoga mat or large towel on padded surface and quiet space to practice. A chair and 2 blocks (or 4-6 thick hard cover books) are recommended.
This yoga class is an opportunity for you to show up just as you are, connect with yourself and others who also struggle with body image. There will be no demands on you or your energy and no expectations (if you need to lie on your mat the whole time in svasana, do it!). The hope is that you’ll leave feeling a little better than when you arrived.
