Virtual Yoga for Anxiety and Depression (Dec 6th-Jan 10th)

Amy Gardner / November 20, 2023

Are you feeling more depressed or anxious?  Maybe less motivated and more isolated?  Tired? Wired?  Struggling with sleep?  Are the approaching holidays adding to your stress and exhaustion?  Do you feel like you just don’t have the bandwidth to be social right now?  Is it difficult to just get through the day?  Is “faking it” in social settings too exhausting?

You are not alone.  Welcome to winter!

Anxiety and Depression increase through the winter months as the days get shorter and colder.  Yoga has been demonstrated to help improve mood.  Which is why we’re offering this 6 week yoga series.

Join other individuals who are also struggling with mood this time of year as we move through breathing practices and yoga poses to specifically target symptoms of depression and anxiety.  The yoga segment will be 45-50 minutes allowing a 10-15 minute check-in after.  The goal is to help create an opportunity for connection and decrease isolation.  The class is appropriate for all levels and ample options for poses and modifications will be offered.  Participants will need a yoga mat or large towel on padded surface and quiet space to practice.  A chair and 2 blocks (or 4-6 thick hard cover books) are recommended.

It can be hard to commit to social activities this time of year if you’re struggling with anxiety and depression.  This yoga class is an opportunity for you to show up just as you are and have a short and contained opportunity to connect.  There will be no demands on you or your energy and no expectations (if you need to lie on your mat the whole time in svasana, do it!).  The hope is that you’ll leave feeling a little better than when you arrived.
