NEW this fall! Body Image and Yoga for Young Women
Body image is a challenge for many young women in our culture and leads to poor self-esteem and eating disorders. This group for female-identifying teens adults ages 19-30 combines components of the Body Project, a cognitive dissonance curriculum that challenges cultural beauty ideals program with mindfulness and yoga practice. The Body Project has demonstrated effectiveness in improving body image and preventing eating disorders.
We offered this group in the spring to high school students and received very positive feedback. Our recent survey indicated a number of young woman in their twenties are interested in this. This is a great opportunity for young women to find community while collectively exploring cultural beauty standards and developing effective coping strategies for navigating emotions that arise from body image concerns.
The group will be run by Amy Gardner and Juliana Sampaio who are both certified Body Project facilitators. Amy is also a registered trauma-informed yoga teacher.
