Cleansing

One of the latest trends in dieting is cleansing.  The idea behind cleansing is that you can detoxify your body by eating exclusively fruits and vegetables in either in whole or liquid form for a certain period of time.  There are many variations on the concept and endless products out there to support cleansing.

This time of year, many people are feeling the need to “cleanse” after holiday indulgences.  Programs such as the Blueprint Cleanse make cleansing look sexy.  Beware!  Most of these products rely on client testimonials without any scientific backing.  Also, how fresh can bottled juices shipped to your home really be?  There’s no doubt that adding fruits and vegetables into the diet along with other whole foods and limiting processed foods, sugar, caffeine and alcohol will make you feel energized and “clean” but there’s no need to go to extremes.  Cleansing programs and products often cost a lot of money.  Seek the guidance of a qualified professional prior to starting any of these types of programs.
