6 Things Parents Can Do to Improve Kids’ Eating Habits
Here are a few things you can do to help foster healthy eating in your family. Although I’m not a fan of the title, there’s some good information here. One thing I would heed caution about is giving kids unlimited access to the food cupboard (at least until a certain age). I encourage parents to use the ‘trust model’ developed by Ellyn Satter (trust model defined). This model divides responsibility of feeding between parent and child; the parent chooses ‘when, where and what’ and the child decides ‘how much’. It is important to include treats and favorite foods regularly so these don’t become taboo, leading to the potential for overeating them when available.
